Halloween Costume Trade-In

With a recent focus of clothing collection and promoting the reuse of well maintained clothing, The Nature of Giving decided to collect old Halloween costumes. Halloween season is when every kid wishes for a new costume, completely disregarding past costumes. You wear a costume once and then forget about it, which leads to piles of good clothing going to waste! This is why we created this project!

Our Mission:

Every year, tons of Halloween costumes go to waste due to constantly having to buy new ones. What better way to stop this cycle of waste other that promoting recycling and reuse? The Nature of Giving set up a small booth at the local Yellow Box, and we posted information for families to donate their old, gently used costumes there.

But here's the catch: this was more than a simple donation collection booth, but also allowed for children to pick up and keep any costume of their liking. We called this part the "trade-in", where you would come with your old costume and trade it for a newer one you liked.

Every Saturday, for three weeks, we spent two ours at the booth in the morning. There, we allowed for children to donate or pick up costumes, and we would also educate them. We told them why we were doing this project, and the importance of reusing.
